MemoServ Services

Utility allowing IRC users to send short messages to other IRC users, regardless if they are online at the time or not. Both the sender and the recipient must have their nicknames registered with NickServ in order to use MemoServ and send memos.

To use MemoServ's commands, type:    /MemoServ <command>.

MemoServ's commands are as follows:

LIST  List all your memos.
READ  Read a memo.
SEND Send a memo to nick.
CSEND Send a channel memo.
SENT View/Read/Delete memos you have recently sent.
DEL  Flag a memo as 'deleted'.
UNDEL  Remove the 'delete' flag from a memo.
PURGE Erase all memos marked as 'deleted'.
FORWARD Have memos forwarded to another nick.
NEWS  Read current network news.
SET Change settings related to memos.

For more information about a command, type:  /MemoServ help <command>.

LIST Syntax: LIST [new]

Lists, if any, the memos you currently have. If NEW is given, only messages you have not read yet will be listed. Memos that have yet to be red will be marked with an 'x' under the "NEW" column. Memos marked as 'Deleted' will be marked with an 'x' under the "DEL" column. If you have more than 25 memos, only the last 25 memos sent to you will be displayed in the listing.

READ Syntax: READ <memo number or LAST>
Sends you the message for the <memo number> given. If LAST is given, your most recent memo received will be sent to you.
Examples: READ 7             - Read memo #7.
READ LAST     - Read most recently sent memo.

SEND Syntax: SEND <nick> <memo>

Sends the user, <nick>, a memo containing the memo message,<memo>. The recipient will receive a notice that they have a new memo. The recipient must have a registered nickname.

CSEND Syntax: CSEND <#channel> <access> <memo>
This command will send a channel memo to all applicable users that have the given access on the channel.
<access> must be one of the following:
ALL sends to all access levels.
AVOICE sends to all access levels (same as ALL).
AOP sends to all access levels except AVOICE.
SOP sends to all SOPS, co-founders and the founder.
CFOUNDER sends to only the co-founders and the founder.
The co-founders and founder will always receive any channel memo. Specifying ALL or AVOICE will just send a basic channel memo to everyone.
Example: MemoServ CSEND #mychan SOP hello all
The above example will send a memo reading "hello all" to all SOPs, co-founders and the founder of channel #mychan.

SENT Syntax: SENT [memo number] [DEL]

When SENT is used without a memo number, it will display all recent memos you have sent that have yet to be deleted by the recipient. This command will only show up to the last 25 memos you have sent. If [memo number] is specified, that memo's text that you sent will be displayed to you.  If DEL is given at the end of the SENT command, [memo number] will be retrieved and deleted. However, this will only work if the memo has not yet been read, or the user has not yet been notified of the new memo's arrival in their memobox.

Note: Even though listing will only show up to 25 of the last memos you have sent, you may still specify a memo number higher than 25 to read/delete that memo's contents.

DEL Syntax: DEL <memo number or ALL or OLD>

Flags the memo <memo number> as 'deleted'. These memos are not actually erased until the PURGE command is used.

If ALL is given instead of a memo number, all memos will be flagged as 'deleted' and purged (erased). You can tell which memos are flagged as 'deleted' by seeing which memos are marked with an 'x' under the DEL column when using the LIST command.  If OLD is given instead of a memo number, all memos that have been read will be flagged as 'deleted'.

Using DEL ALL is the same as flagging all your memos and then purging them. This is a one step command to erase all your memos!

UNDEL Syntax: UNDEL <memo number or ALL>
Removes the 'delete' flag from the memo <memo number>.

If ALL is given instead of a memo number, all memos marked as 'deleted' will be fully restored. You can tell which memos are flagged as 'deleted' by seeing which memos are marked with an 'x' under the DEL column when using the LIST command.

PURGE Syntax: PURGE

Erases all your memos marked as 'deleted'. You can tell which memos are flagged as 'deleted' by seeing which memos are marked with an 'x' under the DEL column when using the LIST  command.
This command is permanent, any memos erased can not be recovered after the PURGE command.

FORWARD Syntax: FORWARD [nick] [password]

Forward your memos to another registered nickname. If no [nick] is given, your memos will no longer be forwarded. When you are forwarding messages to another nick, memos will no longer be received to the current nick's memobox. If you are not identified to the nick you wish to forward memos to, you must supply the password at the end of the command for that nick.

NEWS Syntax: NEWS [index number] or [LIST]

Reads current network news updates. When logging on, if news is updated, MemoServ will notify you. After you have read the news, MemoServ will no longer notify you until more news is ready to be read. If LIST is given, a list of available news reports will be displayed. If [index number] is given, that news report is displayed. The index number can be found on the far left in the news listing. If neither an index number or LIST is given, the latest news will be shown.

MASSMEMO Syntax: MASSMEMO <message>

Sends a memo to all registered nicknames. Users who have NOMEMO set or have full memoboxes will still not receive this memo. Memos will be forwarded appropriately for any nicks that have memo forwarding enabled. You need not use a registered nickname when sending a massmemo. You may change your nick to something appropriate, such as the name of your network. Users will see a memo from whatever nick you use at the time of the MASSMEMO command.

DELNEWS Syntax: DELNEWS <news number>

Deletes a news report from the database. The <news number> is the news update number, which is the same as the historical news number. This is not the number that is displayed on the left in NEWS LIST, but the number that is shown on the far right.

RESETNEWS
Wipes the news database and resets the historical index to 0. The first news report to be submitted after this command will be news report #1.

SET Syntax: SET <option> <parameters>
Sets various nickname options relating to memos.
  <option> can be one of:
EMAILMEMOS  Have your memos sent via e-mail.
NOMEMO Prevent your current nick from receiving memos.
NOTIFY   Change the way you are notified about new memos.
RECEIPT Be notified when your memos have been read.
In order to use this command, you must first identify with your password (/NickServ HELP IDENTIFY for more information).
Type /MemoServ HELP SET <option> for more information on a specific option.

SET NOTIFY Syntax: NOTIFY [option]
Changes the way you will be notified about new memos.
[option] may be one of the following:

ON
You will be notified of memos when you log on, when you unset   /AWAY  and when they are sent to you.

LOGON
You will only be notified of memos when you log on or when you unset /AWAY.

NEW
You will only be notified of memos when they are sent to you.

OFF
You will not receive any notification of memos.
ON is essentially LOGON and NEW combined.

SET RECEIPT Syntax: RECEIPT [option]

Sets whether or not you wish to be sent memo receipts upon your sent memos being read by others.
[option] may be one of the following:

ON
Have services send you memo receipts.

OFF
Disable being sent memo receipts.

If RECEIPT is given without an option, it will display whether or not you have receipts activated for your current nick.

SET NOMEMO Syntax: SET NOMEMO [ON|OFF]

Disables receiving memos for your current nick. This does not disable you from sending memos, it will only block receiving memos to you from others.

SET EMAILMEMOS Syntax: SET EMAILMEMOS [ON|OFF]
Enabling this will have your memos sent to you via email. You must have a valid email set in your nickserv info (/NickServ HELP SET EMAIL).

If EMAILMEMOS is given without a parameter, it will display whether or not you have receipts activated for your current nick.
Note: Memos may still be retrieved by MemoServ, regardless of this setting.
